Theresa Pfarr is an artist and professor based in New Jersey. Her paintings on canvas and paper are rooted in the language of traditional figure painting and the stylistic strategies of contemporary advertising to generate familiar but incongruous figurative paintings. Her work is inspired by the vanity of portrait painting and methods of external identity construction in the habitual pursuit of beauty.

Her work has been exhibited with Ada Gallery, Richmond, VA; Angela Meleca Gallery, Columbus, OH; Modern Arts Midtown, Omaha, NE; Grizzly Grizzly Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; Ann Street Gallery, Newburgh, NY; Ada Gallery, Richmond, VA and The Northern Virginia Fine Art Association, Alexandria, VA. She has lectured on her work at institutions including Emory & Henry College, Murray State University, the University of Central Arkansas and Holy Family University.

Awards and residencies include a Sustainable Arts Foundation Award, a New Jersey State Council Arts Fellowship, a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant, a Roswell Artist-in-Residence Grant, Puffin Foundation Grant, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts Residency, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowship, a Jentel Artist Residency, and a Vermont Studio Center Residency.
